12/14/2010 StereoVision Imaging ,Inc. (SVI), a privately held Altadena, CA company successfully demonstrated their 3D facial recognition surveillance binocular system in conjunction with the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department (LASD) at the LASD tactical training facility in Monterrey Park. The 3D facial recognition capability using the hand held binocular is a milestone accomplishment in passive biometric recognition at ranges to 100 meters.
The demonstration was accomplished as part of ongoing cooperative agreements and contracts with the Department of Justice’s National Institute of Justice (NIJ). SVI, NIJ and an LASD user group participated in the test and evaluation milestone.
SVI in cooperation with their strategic partners developed the total system solution. The result is a near term deployable plug and play compatible solution for law enforcement. Passive surveillance and reconnaissance in outdoor environmental conditions from among uncooperative persons of interest has been an important technical objective for law enforcement.
